A good gaming PC should be able to play the games you’re wanting to play and with our latest designs in our lineup, the eSports editions of Paladin and Dark Knight, we wanted to make rigs that could not only play the games but also stream them simultaneously via Twitch, YouTube, Xsplit and other services. This of course means a lot of testing in the background to make sure things are GOOD! We’ve been quietly checking out several configs over the last few months and now that we’ve got things perfect (massive thanks to Bubba Kush for all the help with this!) it’s time to start sharing some game streams so we can check out things for together 🙂
Today at around 2pm (New Zealand Time) Gabbu will be live streaming a bit of Witcher 3 and League of Legends on the i7-6700K + GTX 1070 config, if you’re tuning in make sure to set quality to “source” so we can double check our settings are good, we’ll be increasing these throughout a series of tests on different internet providers and packages to get a feel for what’s possible over the various connection types in NZ. Once we’ve got a good feel for things we’ll begin capturing a series of new tests via our GGPC YouTube channel with settings used and any helpful tweaks so everyone can join in on this rather fun way to play games with people around the world 🙂
Gear up with a new GTX 1070, GTX 1080 or grab a Gaming PC or Gaming Laptop featuring one of these and you can register that powerful new graphics card to get a game code for Watch Dogs 2 \o/
It’s time to explore a massive and dynamic open world offering an incredible variety of gameplay possibilities. Hack your way through traffic while you engage in dangerous car chases through the winding streets of San Francisco, traverse the rooftops of the colourful and vibrant neighborhoods of Oakland, and infiltrate the cutting-edge offices of Silicon Valley companies. There are many secrets to uncover in the birthplace of the tech revolution. In Watch Dogs 2 we get to explore the birthplace of the tech revolution as Marcus Holloway, a brilliant young hacker who has fallen victim to ctOS 2.0’s predictive algorithms and is accused of a crime he did not commit. In Marcus’ quest to shut down ctOS 2.0 for good, hacking is the ultimate weapon, and players can not only hack into the city’s infrastructure but also every person and any connected device they possess, to trigger unpredictable chains of events.
From Ubisoft “Watch Dogs 2 is already considered a tremendous addition to the open-world action adventure series and we’re confident that millions of players are going to love it.”
A new saga begins for one of the most acclaimed video game franchises in history, GEARS OF WAR 4! After narrowly escaping an attack on their village, JD Fenix and his friends, Kait and Del, must rescue the ones they love and discover the source of a monstrous new enemy. Set 25 years after the Imulsion Countermeasure weapon destroyed all Imulsion and took with it the use of fossil fuels, forcing humanity to adapt new ways for survival – but hey, at least it took out the Locust and the Lambent as well right 😛 Following the aftermath of the Lambent Epidemic, the reformed Coalition of Ordered Governments estimated that only hundreds of thousands of humans are left on Sera. To prevent the population from declining, walled-off cities were built to protect the citizens from the dangers outside but tensions rise with a new faction known as the “Outsiders” who choose to live outside of the COG jurisdiction…
Getting you game code is easy, once you’ve got your awesome new hardware visit the registration page for Gigabyte, EVGA or Asus (depending on your chosen flavour 😛) and click the REDEEM button at the bottom of the pages, follow the steps along to register your new graphics card – once completed you’ll receive an Nvidia code via email and when you’ve got that simply visit the Nvidia redemption page and enter it in!
The promotion runs from today until October 30th, the game is a part of Xbox Play Anywhere so you’ll get a copy of the PC version and Xbox One also which is nice and also a bit clever as Gears of War 4 supports Cross Play across Xbox One and Windows 10 in all of the game’s modes – fun times ahead indeed!
Those fine folks @ Nvidia have uploaded some tasty 4K gameplay to tide us over until we get to try this one out for ourselves 😛
Fractured Space is a free-to-play tactical space MOBA that will have you fighting for control in spectacular close quarter battles with massive warships for dominance.
Brought to life in the stunning Unreal Engine 4, you captain a vessel of unmatched combat authority choosing from an ever increasing number of specialised galactic warships. Mastery of a single ship is your first step, understanding your own capabilities and that of your team before taking the fight to the enemy is crucial for success though as things can turn bad very quickly 😛 As your experience increases so will your ability to choose which victories to chase and when to warp out and re-group for another epic clash.
Pick a manufacturer, choose a class and customize your weapon loadouts. As you play you gain the right to command more ships while earning credits to add them to your fleet. Tailor your craft to your combat preferences with crew and weapons options then take on your your interstellar juggernaut into battle. The composition of your team’s fleet is vital to your success, battles may be fought with firepower but they are won with positioning. Your team of five will face an equally ambitious opponent in a ceaselessly transforming fight for control. Your plans will evolve, tactics will shift but as a team you will emerge triumphant. Your individual prowess may be great but it insignificant next to well organised communication, support and teamwork in this one!
Fractured Space is now available to download via Steam Early Access, if you like MOBA games like DOTA 2 or League of Legends and spaceships then this ones definitely worth checking out 🙂
Paladins BETA is now live via Steam and we can all jump into the action offered by this new free to play FPS MOBA game 🙂 Those familar with Overwatch gameplay will pick up the game quickly but it’s pretty good for new players also with an early set of player vs bot matches to get you used to things. The easy matches give players a nice opportunity to try out all the new characters – We highly recommend having a go with Fernando who has a shield a lot like Reinhart but instead of a hammer he’s wielding a transforming flamethrower lance.
There is a card power up system which is pretty cool and every hero has a unique set of power-ups specific to them, with Makoa we got cards that caused our shell spin to heal and another that added lifesteal to our dredge hook attack along with all the usual +HP and run faster stuff 😛
While Paladins might not be as polished as other options it’s still a lot of fun and that free to play price is oh so good 🙂 Performance wise, with the game being in early access things could change a lot but right now the RX 460 + i5-6400 combo pumps out around 100FPS 🙂
Sporting a similar look to it’s big brother the new P55W v6 Gaming Laptop looks a little sleeker with its 15.6″ frame in black with a subtle orange trim running down the sides (a perfect match with the new Prodigy Gaming Headset from Logitech G), inside is a killer i7-6700HQ + GTX 1060 combo so we’ve got the power needed for some pretty high end gaming and when connected to mains power this laptop is also a VR Ready system \o/
Starting tests off with a good long game of Battlefield 1 the Gigabyte P55W v6 is looking very good indeed running above 60FPS at ultra!
Quickly making our way into the Witcher 3 the GTX 1060 does very well yet again, with a little tweaking of the settings we hit our 60FPS target while slicing down bandits 🙂 If you’re lucky enough to have somehow not played the Witcher 3 yet a Game of the Year Edition has just released and you’re in for a treat as this single player game looks good and plays great.
The multiplayer esports hit Overwatch plays pretty flawlessly on this config also, busting out over 100FPS at times while playing at maximum settings. Competitive play is in full swing and if you’re looking for a laptop to play on the go, the GTX 1060 is ready for the challenge!
For Virtual Reality you’ll want to be connected to mains power and below is an extremely boring video showing the performance check 😛 Until we figure out the best way to capture the 90hz this is the best way we can show performance but once we figure things out we’ll replace these videos with some actual VR Gaming 🙂
When checking out the performance on battery we tested a couple of important things out, the first being battery life while heavy gaming which was 82mins (impressive) and the second, more interesting thing was how being on battery affected the performance of the dedicated GTX 1060 graphics inside. For this test we ran on battery while playing some Battlefield 1 and brought the charge down down to around 35% remaining then recorded some gameplay showing the differences in performance you can expect when gaming on the go – this gaming laptop did much better than anything else we’ve had the pleasure of testing with only a very small settings tweak needed to keep playing with excellent FPS. (It’s quite possible the GTX 1050 laptops will be able to play without tweaking settings between plugged in and battery, can’t wait to see!)
Looking closely at the machine itself we find excellent build quality and very little flex, the full sized chiclet keyboard has is a clean white LED that makes things easy to read and we see the addition of a USB Type-C port which is great for transferring massive files. It has HDMI 2.0 for connecting to a 4K screen all the other little mod cons we look for like Bluetooth 4.1 and a cup holder (JK) but yet again – no DisplayPort sadly! The 1080P IPS display looks beautiful though with great colours and very little reflection or glare from the matt panel 🙂
UPDATE: We’ve continued testing out everything this excellent new laptop has to offer (we also checked out other versions from MSi and Asus to compare) and now that we’ve had a really good go with it we’re happy to give the Gigabyte P55Wv6 our GGPC recommendation – This GTX 1060 Gaming Laptop is GOOD!
We’ve had some epic battles in Titanfall 2 with the 3GB Gigabyte GTX 1060 sticking pretty darn close to 60FPS even when jumping on the back of an enemy titan to pop a grenade 🙂 This game plays best on the 6GB version letting you push those textures all the up.
With Battlefield 1 you can go ultra all the way for most maps, in the big city map when all the smokey rubble, flame throwers and gas grenades start going it can get a little dicey but you can still keep above 60 by tweaking post processing and mesh to high 🙂
Moving away from first person shooters now we jump into a bit of Black Desert Online and with this one the 6GB Asus Strix GTX 1060 really shines, BDO is framelocked to 60 but achieving this isn’t easy – nicely done nVidia!
The GTX 1060 isn’t invincible though, we threw the Witcher 3 at it with some very high settings and while it’s still playable, it pushes the 1060 to its limits.
Tweaking the settings a little makes for smooth gaming though, as you can see with the GTX 1060 Laptop below 🙂
Lots more games to play and more tests coming, keep your eyes on the GGPC YouTube Channel for the latest!
We’re pretty excited to be competing in the upcoming Ping Zero! eSports tournaments and we’ve been working hard on creating some very special gaming PC for our GGPC team players to use throughout the event.
GGPC GTX 1070 Warlock eSports Edition PC!
We’ve made this build quite small by using the Phanteks EVOLV and with this new form factor we had plenty of space on the desk for our weapons of choice – Logitech G Gaming Gear setups for eSports!
Of all the Gaming PC builds here at GGPC New Zealand, the Hero is the most popular and it’s no surprise really with such good looks and remarkable performance at around $1299.
Like all our builds we constantly test Hero with slightly different components to see if we can squeeze out a little more performance for each $ spent, and on that note – let’s take a look at the latest tweaks 🙂
Our GTX 950 DCUII Edition is being replaced with a slightly larger, quieter and more powerful Asus STRIX version, to match this we’ve also changed the motherboard from the Gigabyte H110M-S2H to the almost identical Asus H110M-A which has a slightly different shape and darker colouring.
This new configuration also fits the requirements for a “Powered by Asus” system which is nice for future special promotions coming directly from Asus NZ.
What do these changes mean for you? Well, previously our stock settings Final Fantasy Benchmark test came in with an average score of 6239 – with our new graphics card being a larger, cooler and quieter we couldn’t resist seeing what kind of score the new build would be able to hit with a quick graphics card overclock – our target being a 10% performance increase for a score of 7000 😛
For our OC software we’ll be using the free Asus GPU Tweak II package that is included with the graphics card, if you’ve never tried overclocking before it’s an ideal starting point for monitoring temps and tweaking your settings. Using this software we were able to boost the systems score from 6443 (the new stock average is higher) to a very nice 7212! This had another cool effect we didn’t expect and the systems rating changed from “Very High” to “Extremely High” 🙂 That’s almost a GTX 960!
You can download the Final Fantasy Benchmark software via the blog from Nvidia Benchmarks, it’s free so you can install and test your own systems at home and compare with various configurations we have in our Gaming PC Benchmark Playlist. Below is the settings we used if you want to try this out your own GTX 950 at home, it doesn’t matter which flavour of GTX 950 you are using either – the Asus GPU tweak II software will still work 🙂
Fun times ahead with the GTX 1070 and 1080 just around the corner 🙂 We’ve just had a bunch of new chassis arrive in the workshop from our recent component hunt in Taipei so keep your eyes on our Computers Blog for more custom PC builds, benchmarks, gameplay FPS tests and more!
