Good Gaming – Nvidia Overwatch Screenshot Competition!

Those fine folks at Nvidia and Gigabyte are having an Overwatch screenshot contest with some excellent GTX gear up for grabs \o/

This one’s as easy as playing some Overwatch and taking some sweet pics along the way!

When you’ve captured your amazing screenshot you then upload it the hi-res gallery here and register your details. Once that’s all set if you also want to post it onto Facebook use the hashtags #GAMEREADY #PLAYOVERWATCH – this competition is set to run until the 28th May.

When it comes to taking screenshots you can use the classic ‘printscrn‘ button on your keyboard but that great shot will get overwritten if you decide to ‘printscrn’ again. A better option here is to use the screenshot tool within Nvidia Experience, it’s tied to ALT+F1 by default and with this you can happily take as many shots as you like. They’ll automatically save to the videos folder, the same one as your Shadowplay clips to save in.

This also presents another really cool way to do screenshots, you can record a Shadowplay clip and then afterwards capture the perfect screenshot from it!

In Overwatch you can turn your HUD off with ALT+Z, this happens to be the default shortcut for Nvidia Experience also so be sure to change one of them before you jump into a game, or you could find yourself stuck in NO-HUD mode 😛 Without all the stats on screen you can capture some beautiful shots like this quick one we captured below, now we just need to get a good POTG with our new D.Va Police skin

GAME ON!

Good eSports – Overwatch World Cup NZ

UPDATE: Congrats to AVRL, SMITE and NESTY for being selected as our NZ Overwatch World Cup Committee!

With the top 32 regions now selected by Blizzard (New Zealand slides in at #30!) it’s time for us to vote on who is going to be on our Overwatch competition committee.

Whoever we choose now will be responsible for selecting and recommending to Blizzard the strongest Overwatch team for our region.

You can cast 3 votes in total, there are seven candidates to choose from – let’s take a quick look at who’s in the running for the positions!

AVRL is the current lead analyst and caster for the Overwatch Pacific Championship, he was also lead analyst and caster for the Oceanic Summer Series and the former coach of JAM Gaming and Team Skyfire!

ezy is a full time eSports host for Full Circle who are currently covering the Overwatch Pacific Championship. He’s got the skills to see what potential players can do based on their mechanical skill and picking which personalities work well together.

Joker has played competitively since the release of Overwatch last May and watched the best players NZ has to offer rise so he knows who works well with who.

Lokistar is a psychology major who has been playing Overwatch since BETA. With extensive knowledge of both the game and the Blizzard gaming community.

Nesty has both experience and passion for the game. Reaching the top 500 on more than one account with a good knowledge around the mechanics of gameplay.

Pixie casts the matches in which champions are crowned, he knows what makes winners win. A vote for Pixie is a vote for knowledge, experience and moustaches!

Smite is a colour caster and analyst on the biggest Pacific tournaments Overwatch has seen, packed full of sweet as Kiwi pride, he’s a top choice to help New Zealand take on the world.

Vote for your chosen representatives here, as I write this there are just days left so get in quick with your selections!

All 32 teams will compete in a group stage event for a chance to make it to the World Cup playoffs at BlizzCon in November \o/

Good Gaming – Heroes of the Storm / Overwatch D.Va BONUS!

Heroes of the Storm has had a massive update, the game now has a much better level up progression system, a new battleground, and, of course, loot chests!

The Nexus Challenge 2.0 also begins and as a reward for playing some Heroes of the Storm you can unlock a new new skin for D.Va in Overwatch (available in week two, but you have complete week one’s challenge as well) + this event will also give us another chance to secure the Oni Genji skin which was up for grabs back in November when the first Nexus challenge event was revealed. With this one a new quest will unlock each week and only one can be active at any given time – complete all four quests to get your bonus. This event is set to run until May 22.

Quest 1 is now live – Play 5 games with a friend in Versus A.I., Quick Match, Unranked, or Ranked. This will unlock a Orochi Hovercycle, Warbanner, Spray and Portrait for Heroes of the Storm + the Oni Genji Skin, Player Icon and Spray for Overwatch.

Quest 2 is set to begin on May 3rd (NZ), again we have to Play 5 games with a friend but this time no A.I. so it’s just Quick Match, Unranked, or Ranked. (remember to complete quest 1 first!) and the DV.A skin that’s up for grabs is pretty awesome looking, turning our mech into an awesome police robot of justice – along with this you’ll also get a pretty sweet police themed hovercycle mount to use in Heroes of the Storm 🙂

The event finishes itself off with some Lootboxes to crack open, the first 10 for Heroes of the Storm followed by another 10 for Overwatch.

Let the grind begin! We’ll be on our new GGPC Twitch channels if you want to check these things out, you can actually get the first 5 wins really quickly by entering matches against the Ai, don’t worry if you don’t have any friends on – local chat is full of peeps looking for groups to smash out the event and unlock the new skins 🙂 Even a loss counts so don’t worry if you get smashed.

Just don’t forget to friend up or it won’t count towards the match totals to get these sweet unlockables!

Good Gaming Headset – SteelSeries Siberia 350

The SteelSeries Siberia 350 is a beautiful gaming headset, with DTS Headphone:X 7.1 surround it perfectly reproduces in-game audio so you hear every bullet, spell, footstep and environmental cue exactly as the game developers intended. The suspension headband makes its triumphant return in the Siberia 350 and it’s a good move too – that design offers a really lightweight, self-adjusting fit to all but the largest of heads 😛 (to clarify, Dave has a really large head and it was a little tight on him).

With the SteelSeries Engine 3 software suite you can control the LED lighting settings, manage an unlimited number of gaming profiles, and customise the EQ to get the right sound for every game you play but it’s unlikely you’ll need too as this one looks and sounds great right out of the box.

To top things off it sports a great goose-neck microphone that conceals itself within the headset when not in use, this gaming headset is GOOD!

Good eSports – Overwatch Pacific Championship Full Circle Coverage

It all started with a new Blizzard Event Center opening in Taipei and now it has exploded into an amazing Overwatch Pacific Championship event with team Blank eSports travelling all the way to Taipei and fighting their way up to the TOP of the table!

The event is a massive 11 week gaming extravaganza, so this is just the beginning but in any case the achievements by team Blank and the quality of the games so far has been world class.

Team Blank have been playing really well, in the first week things looked great with 3-0 wins over Japan’s Detonator Gold and Taiwan’s Machi Esports, this continued through week 2 and into week 3 with the team pushing themselves up the table fast.

You can check out the gameplay below that took them to the top spot with 7 wins, with so many teams competing in this one you’ll need to fast-foward to exactly 5 hours into this broadcast to see the match – it’s a massive event with many teams battling each other and while the other gameplay is good we’re here to follow team Blank! 😛

Good Custom PC – Design and WIN with Cooler Master and Nvidia!

Those fine folks at Nvidia have a new custom chassis design competition \o/

Add your visual design to the Cooler Master MasterCase Pro 5, the design must include (but is not limited to)

– Angular, Titanium

– GeForce GTX logo pattern

If your design gets into the top 3, they’ll have the custom chassis made for you + Asus have also sweetened the the prizepool by adding a little extra GTX bonus into the mix 🙂

You can download the Nvidia Chassis design kit and manual here, when you’re all ready to go submit your GeForce Cooler Master Case Design here 🙂 More details on the secondary prizes (Yes, there are more!) can be found on the Nvidia Design Website as well.

Be sure to submit your design in before the 31st May deadline, from there the finalists (six spots available total) will be chosen by Nvidia and Cooler Master and then it goes onto public voting around the 9th of June with the winners are set to be announced for this one around June 26th, 2017.

These are some pretty amazing prizes they’ve put up for grabs so get designing!

We’ve done a very quick design to get a feel for the template – this is going to be addictive… we can enter more than once – right 😛 This kind of easy to use template would be a great option for our own Custom Gaming PC design tool, we’ll get working on adding something like this in soon 🙂

Such a great competition from Nvidia and a great case from Cooler Master!

Good Gaming Keyboard – G413 Mechanical in Silver and Carbon!

UPDATE: Hands on the with new Silver G413 – it’s beautiful!

Hot on the heels of the excellent TKL Gaming Keyboard just released (Ten Key Less, it basically means no numpad :P), those fine folks at Logitech G have just released another TWO new metal keyboard options for us!

Full sized but lightweight with high strength aluminum alloy top casing for added rigidity along with a slim, blade-like form factor thanks to the way the keys raise off the board – they’ve done something brilliant here within the keycaps and the LED lighting on these doesn’t suffer from the light leakage issues you may have experienced in the past with other slim metal board designs, the package even includes extra gaming keycaps that are interchangeable with the ones in the keyboard as well as a keycap puller to get those keys out when you feel like it.

One of the best bit’s about these new G413 is they both feature a USB passthrough so you can charge your smartphone from the keyboard, an excellent feature that should be on every gaming keyboard! They’ve also added a nice cable route pathway on the bottom of the keyboard too ensure everything stays super tidy 🙂

The media, brightness and volume controls are now integrated as secondary functions accessed via the F keys. and you can also setup your favourite programmable macros for games via the Logitech Gaming Software suite. Two distinct versions are available, the first is Carbon Black with a red LED backlight and the second is a super cool looking Silver G413 version with white LED.

Good Gaming PC NZ – GGPC Twitch Tests Begin!

Here at GGPC we’ve been happily using our Youtube channel for just over a year now (approaching 2 million views fast!), uploading hundreds of in-game performance tests as we try out all the wonderful graphics cards for ourselves and we absolutely love it, it’s through this channel that we recently started getting requests for info around what the performance is like when streaming – specifically lot’s of people wanted to know more about Twitch but until recently the quality options for that have been more suited towards console gaming than PC so we only tested things out case by case.

Now that Twitch has rolled out their enhanced video and streaming playback, upgraded to include 1080p/60fps support – we’ve jumped in officially to join in on the fun!

Eight of us have created new accounts with a fun quest to kick things off, we’ve got a lot to learn but love gaming so it promises to be good \o/

We will be hosting all the individual gamers on our main GGPC NZ Twitch channel as well, because we each have our own favourite games to play and rather unique gameplay styles it’s going to be a fantastic mess featuring everything from Monster Hunter Online to Star Citizen and Hearthstone. If you’re wanting to give streaming a go for yourself we highly recommend using Nvidia Experience to connect to Twitch, it works in a very similar way to the Shadowplay function we’re all familiar with and is wonderfully easy to use.

GAME ON!

Good Gaming PC NZ – Custom PC Building Tool

We absolutely love designing Gaming PC here at GGPC NZ and with our new PC building tool you can too! We’ve just launched our new visual tool which will show you what your system design looks like as you choose/change components.

You won’t need to be a hardware guru to design a system, we only provide options which are compatible with each other. The tool works by providing a range of fully functional base builds from which you can customise your system upwards, changing the chassis, adding additional graphics power or digital storage depending on your needs. You’ll be happily swapping out components to get the perfect look with no worries.

Because a great looking build often has a specific flavour, to make things a bit easier for everyone you’ll see a colour listed in brackets with each option which indicates the primary highlights on that specific piece of hardware,

You can check out the current range of Custom Gaming PC options here with many more coming.

We’re now onto the most fun part of the project, adding lot’s of glorious components into our tool which will make designing builds even more fun – if you’ve got a specific build in mind and need a component added you’ll find a facebook comments section at the bottom of each custom gaming pc page – just pop in a link to the component you need added and we’ll bump it up the list 🙂

To make things even better we’ve also activated a “BUY BUTTON” up top which will send your specific components through to PB Tech NZ along with a special code signalling the assembly of components into a complete system with OS installed and drivers loaded, it usually takes a couple days to complete the order (including system testing) at which point the build will be couriered to your doorstep 🙂 When they say “You dream it, we build it” they aren’t kidding, you can read more about Custom Gaming PC assembly here 🙂

BUILD ON!

Good Gaming RAM – G.Skill Flare X for Ryzen Gaming PC

GGPC GSkill FlareX for Ryzen Gaming PC

With the new AMD Ryzen 5 series just about to launch it’s time to go crazy preparing a range of new builds featuring this new generation of processor \o/ But Ryzen 5 isn’t the only good thing in AMD gaming – those fine folks at G.Skill have just released a DDR4 RAM kit for the AM4 platform they’ve named the G.Skill FLARE X series 🙂

Featuring a very aggressive looking heat-spreader (when compared to the sleek V-Series we know and love) this new RAM is especially designed to be compatible with new Ryzen processor range, enabling top tier performance. It uses high performance integrated circuits (IC) screened specifically for the AMD platform, kits are put through G.Skill’s rigorous testing processes to ensure the best reliability and stability in your system.

If you’re thinking of grabbing a new Ryzen 5 and building an AMD Gaming PC there are a lot of motherboards that will look great with this new RAM kit – check out the Gigabyte GA-AB350 Gaming 3Asus PRIME B350 PlusROG Crosshair VI Hero motherboards for sure but the best match for this ram comes from the ASRock AB350 Gaming K4 which has some pretty awesome red metal heatsinks of its own that align with the colouring of the G.Skill Flare X pretty perfectly!
