Good Gaming Headset – The SteelSeries Siberia 840 Wireless Kit

feature_image_1If you take a look around the world wide web it’s tough to find a top 5 list of wireless headsets that doesn’t include the Siberia 800 on it so when SteelSeries updated to the new Siberia 840 Gaming Headset not many tweaks were made, this update is primarily around the brilliant addition of Bluetooth \o/ That’s right, this awesome set of ear cannons now has a Bluetooth option meaning we can start using them with more devices like our smartphones and it’s also great news for gaming laptop users as there never is enough USB ports for all our toys 😛

From SteelSeries “The Siberia 840 not only delivers the same detailed sound quality as its predecessor, but also incorporates Bluetooth connectivity for true universal mobile compatibility, it is no longer just a gaming headset, but a flawless audio system that gamers can use to listen to music and even answer calls.”

The Siberia 840 build quality is excellent, well above standard. It’s a closed-cup design that’s great for listing loudly even in public places and on the earpiece you’ll find handy wireless controls for making quick adjustments, the headband has split pockets of super comfortable memory foam padding while the microphone discreetly slides into the left earcup for a nice, somewhat incognito look when traveling. On that note this isn’t a super bling LED all of the things type headset instead going for a sleek and stylish appearance that’s quite welcome in a time when there seems to be lights on absolutely everything 🙂

GGPC SteelSeries 840 Transmitter and Battery Charger

Being a wireless headset that means battery life is an important factor as well and to address this SteelSeries include 2 hot-swappable batteries with the Siberia 840’s, while one is in the headset the other is placed into the base station to charge. Each battery can apparently provide up to 20 hours of audio goodness (legit, tested and confirmed) so this should be more than enough for marathon gaming missions or long commutes.

We were very very impressed when we first saw the 800’s and the new Siberia 840 is purely an improvement on this design, nice work SteelSeries! Stocks are on the way to NZ now so be sure to keep your eyes on our new SteelSeries Store and GGPC Computers Blog for the latest!

Good Gaming Mouse – The Logitech G900 Chaos Spectrum

LogitechG900Banner

Logitech has been working on a new wireless gaming mouse design and their efforts come to life with the latest G900 Chaos Spectrum – they might have just built a mouse that outperforms all other gaming mice, including wired ones 🙂

This lightweight semi modular masterpiece is well suited for both lefties and right handers with the side buttons being removable and you can even opt to have no side buttons with the included plates. The G900 has 5-11 buttons available to you, including a left and right click on the scroll wheel.

Unplug the data and charging cable to seamlessly switch between wired and wireless modes without interrupting your game.  It’s got staying power –  the wireless battery life of older G700 was a admirable 8-10 hours, the G602 had its rather insane 200+ hours battery life but the trade off was weight added by two AA batteries (or one, the mouse can be used just a single battery) and while the G900 doesn’t quite hit those numbers you can still game without recharge for around 24 hours with all the lighting on, and upto 32 hours with the lights off.  The mouse automatically goes to sleep when not in use and wakes up quickly when you want to use it again.

The Chaos Spectrum is equipped with the PMW3366 optical sensor which is widely regarded as the best gaming mouse sensor on the market.  With features like zero smoothing, filtering or acceleration across the entire DPI range (200-12,000DPI) this component delivers incredible tracking and accuracy with consistent responsiveness even at maximum speed.

LED is the now more commonplace 16.8 million configurable along with your macros via the Logitech Gaming Software, it features two lighting zones that can be tweaked independently or colour synced to match your setup.  Don’t forget to grab the ARX control app as well, if you’re reading this on your smartphone here are the links for Android and iOS 🙂

UPDATE: This amazing mouse is now available in New Zealand!
