Custom Gaming PC – Best of Computex 2016

ComputexNZ

The Computex 2016 expo was a showcase for some of the most talented modders in the world and while we were at the show hunting down new chassis, components and gaming gear we also took some time to meet the makers and see all the awesome custom PC they built!

There are a bunch of rig modding competitions with big prizes to inspire creativity so before we dive in here’s a bit more information about two of our favourites that you can participate in down here in New Zealand and Australia 🙂

CASE MOD WORLD SERIES 2016 ANZ EDITION

The Cooler Master Case Mod World Series ANZ edition was created to recognize and promote modders within our community. Three Winners from ANZ region will be selected after the Case Mod World Series 2016 concludes on the 8th of June.  There are two categories you could choose to enter, the first begin a case modification and the second is a to build a PC from scratch which is loads of fun!

CASE MOD 2016 INVITATIONAL

2016 Thermaltake CaseMOD Invitational Season 1’s modding theme is the Thermaltake Core P5 ATX Wall-Mount chassis. Participating modders have the choice of modding a single or dual build. Modders are given a special time frame to complete the build and are given an unlimited selection of Thermaltake products to mod and install on the build.

Now everyone knows what’s up let’s take a look at some builds!

This one is a rather cool build (lol couldn’t resist) from case modder Jenki – It takes Captain Americas shield and encases it within ice as it slices through the P5 – pretty crazy stuff and he’s even modded a gaming keyboard to match!

If you’re a fan the Gundam Anime you might have recognised this build right away, a creation by modder Von Carlo Rasonabe (Reapervon) this one is named “The Weapon of Mass Destruction” and it’s pretty massive!

We also spotted an out of this world mod known as the BAHIA BLASTER by case modder Maciel Barreto, aside from the liquid coolant reservoir on the front it’s pretty hard to tell this one is a gaming PC!  Enermax had some of the best cable management of the show with an excellent Division custom build but the Gigabyte Mini-Gun PC was certainly the show stopper with its rotating barrel – check out this beast in action!

These are just a small slice of what’s on show, other highlights included a very cool NZXT noctis chassis with a very impressive window graphics, there was a Ghost Busters LEGO PC complete with green goo and an incredible InWin S Frame lit up with Steampunk style.

Good Gaming PC – GTX 1080 Gaming PC in three flavours!

Today is the day!

The Nvidia GTX 1080 is now available in New Zealand and our friends over at PB Tech NZ have three stunning new Gaming PC builds using founders edition graphics cards from Asus, EVGA and Gigabyte. Each gaming system has been built around the flavour of graphics card inside, let’s check out the builds!

First up the very green Gigabyte G1 Gaming Machine!

GGPCPB1080G1Using the Gigabyte Z170 G1 Sniper Edition motherboard was a top choice, not only does this provide the unlocked i7-6700K processor with all the tools for a hearty overclock it also matches the NZXT H440 in green perfectly! Fitted with a maintenance free Cooler Master Nepton Liquid Cooling kit and Crucial Ballistix DDR4 ram this gaming rig is sure to make the most of the perfect matching Gigabyte GTX 1080 founders edition fitted inside 🙂

Dual storage devices include a Crucial solid state drive for really fast boot times + a large hard drive so you can install all your games and go crazy all night long!

GGPCPBEVGA1080Next on the list – an extremely tidy build with EVGA!
This build looks classy, the CM MasterCase 5 was a fine choice indeed and matches the EVGA Z170 FTW (for the win) Edition motherboard inside with it’s dark silver and black colour scheme. A fully modular EVGA SuperNOVA powersupply has also been used and it’s all looking extremely good together, a white LED lighting kit makes the components inside this build POP! You’ll also enjoy dual storage options yet again with this one and the build is also ready to add a second GTX 1080 in SLi when the new connectors arrive – crazy…

GGPCPB1080ASUSLastly, and even more impressive than the first two, is the Asus Republic of Gamers version.

This one’s just a little more extreme and has a massive radiator (240mm) in the front to ensure great temperatures as you push your games to the limit and beyond! The Asus ROG HERO Motherboard is the AURA version and this is connected to the chassis RGB lighting so you’ll be able to go crazy with special effects and find the perfect theme, this also allows for a bunch of really cool effects and you could even set it to give you a light show when you play some music 🙂

The case is an epic silver Phanteks Evolv with tempered glass side panels so you’ll be able to gaze at your glorious GTX 1080 inside while it pulses to the beat of your tunes!

Great builds indeed, these are all the creations of “Mojo” and we’ll be sure to feature more of his awesome builds in future GGPC blogs to come 🙂  We’ll be unveiling our own GGPC GTX 1080 build when the new Asus Strix versions of the 1080 arrive!

GAME ON!

Good Gaming Combo – Cooler Master announce the Devastator II

devastator2

UPDATE: The Devastator II Gaming Keyboard and Mouse Combo is available now

A lot of us are familiar with the current CM Storm Devastator combo (I’m actually typing this with one right now) and know it’s a great value combo, so how have Cooler Master improved on the design?

Cooler Master say the Devastator II takes the best features of its predecessor and makes them even better.  The keyboard now has a crisp, mechanical response thanks to exclusive “mem-chanical” switches,  these switches add several components to the keys themselves adding a most satisfying click to each keypress which is pretty nice and also extends the testing life to a whopping 12 million – double that of the previous generation!

This combo is sure to be a steal whether you’re new to PC gaming or a seasoned veteran, we can’t wait to get our hands on it 🙂
