Gigabyte

Good Gaming – Nvidia Overwatch Screenshot Competition!

Those fine folks at Nvidia and Gigabyte are having an Overwatch screenshot contest with some excellent GTX gear up for grabs \o/

This one’s as easy as playing some Overwatch and taking some sweet pics along the way!

When you’ve captured your amazing screenshot you then upload it the hi-res gallery here and register your details. Once that’s all set if you also want to post it onto Facebook use the hashtags #GAMEREADY #PLAYOVERWATCH – this competition is set to run until the 28th May.

When it comes to taking screenshots you can use the classic ‘printscrn‘ button on your keyboard but that great shot will get overwritten if you decide to ‘printscrn’ again. A better option here is to use the screenshot tool within Nvidia Experience, it’s tied to ALT+F1 by default and with this you can happily take as many shots as you like. They’ll automatically save to the videos folder, the same one as your Shadowplay clips to save in.

This also presents another really cool way to do screenshots, you can record a Shadowplay clip and then afterwards capture the perfect screenshot from it!

In Overwatch you can turn your HUD off with ALT+Z, this happens to be the default shortcut for Nvidia Experience also so be sure to change one of them before you jump into a game, or you could find yourself stuck in NO-HUD mode 😛 Without all the stats on screen you can capture some beautiful shots like this quick one we captured below, now we just need to get a good POTG with our new D.Va Police skin

GAME ON!

GOOD GAMING PC – CORSAIR RGB RAM WITH GIGABYTE AORUS FUSION!

GGPC RGB RAM Corsair Vengence and Gigabyte Aorus Fusion

If you’re lucky enough to be packing a Gigabyte Aorus Motherboard in your Gaming PC there’s a really cool update that will let you tweak Corsairs new RGB Vengeance RAM kits within the existing Gigabyte FUSION app we already use to customise our zone lighting. These new kits light up in one entire colour at a time rather than having individual zones, so we’re limited to showing a single colour per stick but we could still have four fitted each with their own colours, the Corsair RGB currently does four standard light effects — static, rainbow, breathing and colour shift.

Right now those with GIGABYTE Fusion enabled motherboards will be able to control their Corsair Vengeance RGB RAM as well, you can still control things via Corsair Link software but having one software package to control everything is the goal, just like we did with the MasterCase Pro 6 PC Part Picker build so we can’t wait to try this out with Fusion here at GGPC 😛

GGPC PCPartPicker Trident Z RGB Ram Build

The FUSION desktop app itself is really easy to use, but what makes this one sooo appealing for us is it actually has a smartphone companion app as well and with it you can customise things from your android smartphone – you can download the Gigabyte RGB Fusion Smartphone App on Google Play \o/ It’s important to note that this app will likely need an update to add the new ram functionality and there is sometimes a little tinkering you must do around permissions in order to pair your system with the app, thankfully Jon Colón left a review on the app which explains it with details “UPDATE: In order for this program to work, open windows firewall with advanced security. Under inbound rules click “New Rule” – Click port then next. You need to add TCP 9009, UDP 1980 and UDP 19801″

Fun times ahead for sure – if you just can’t wait to start playing around with this awesome new tech below are links to some of our favourite FUSION ready motherboards and also the G.Skill RGB kits which are available in New Zealand right now!

Good Gaming PC Case – CM MasterBox 5 Dark Mirror

We’ve been treated to so many good chassis lately and today we’re looking specifically at a very reasonably priced computer case from those fine folks at Cooler Master – white MasterBox 5 with a dark mirror front panel 🙂

Starting things off, this isn’t the first in the MasterBox 5 series and there are also options if you wanted to grab this one in black, or with mesh instead of tinting on the front – that’s really what Cooler Master has been all about lately as well, options!

This chassis provides a really good base to start just about any kind of build in, an included power supply shield will help keep things super tidy inside. There are mounting holes all over the place which allow for multiple positions when fitting storage devices, the movable hot swap HDD caddy has a clip hinge with the CM logo on each drive bay as well. This case is ready for various sizes of motherboard, from the tiny ITX though to large ATX like we’ve used below in our little AMD test system.

The chassis does include 2x black CM 120mm fans which are mounted in the front, with these fitted the mirror effect for the front panel is pretty good at reflecting whatever your PC is facing – this panel is actually a deep tint so if you decide to put LED fans into the position you’ll cancel out the mirror somewhat and a things will light up the front, you can check this out in our RGB MasterBox 5 build shown at the bottom of this blog 🙂 The top of the case provide quick access to dual USB 3.0 (which aren’t coloured blue, we like this) and also audio jacks with the power button having a white LED light behind it. The side window panel is massive so when it came time to add in the little extra lighting we mounted this on the front aiming backwards, that way if you’ve got the PC on your desk at eye-level you won’t have a blazing LED shining directly into your eyes 😛

GGPC MasterBox 5 Dark Mirror Custom Build

Even though the chassis is inexpensive compared to others of similar looks and quality (it’s under $150 NZD at the time of writing this) it’s so tidy looking you really can put in the highest end components and things won’t be off balance. There is space for X99 motherboards and dual graphics card builds, you can rear mount your radiator or even front mount a 240mm liquid cooling kit in a push/pull configuration and it even fits the absolutely massive air cooling units like the MasterAir Maker 8 – crazy cool!

GGPC CM MasterBox 5 Dark Mirror Multiple Custom Builds

We like this chassis so much we’ve decided to use it for our own top selling build – the GGPC Hero GTX 1050 Gaming PC \o/ With this build being a part of our latest series of custom rigs you can tweak the components and the new visual tool will show you what your system design looks like as you choose/change components. You won’t need to be a hardware guru to design a system, we only provide options which are compatible with each other. The tool works by providing a range of fully functional base builds from which you can customise your system upwards, adding additional graphics power or digital storage depending on your needs. You’ll be happily swapping out components to get the perfect look with no worries 🙂

We’re looking forward to doing more Custom Gaming PC builds with this chassis, with such flexible mounting options and killer looks it’s hard not to love this case (or the others in the series) but among the current range this white dark mirror version is certainly a favourite of ours 🙂 On that note we happily give this fine Cooler Master chassis our GGPC recommends award – the MasterBox 5 Dark Mirror Case is GOOD!

Good Gaming Laptop – Gigabyte Kaby Lake GTX 1060 Aero!

GGPC Gigabyte GTX 1060 Kaby Lake Gaming Laptop

Gigabyte have continued to update their excellent line up of GTX 10 series gaming laptops and now the first of the Kaby Lake refresh has arrived in New Zealand – among which is the absolutely stunning Aero series which is now packing the mighty i7-7700HQ and a 6GB GTX 1060!

Gigabyte Aero GTX 1060 Laptop Marco Keys GGPC NZWhat makes this series so darn impressive is the laptop sports a gorgeous 2560×1440 resolution IPS screen packed into a very portable 14″ package, it’s simply a joy to look at 🙂
Weighing in at around 2KG this is one of the few laptops available now that’s perfect for work (it’s so fast!) and also great for gaming after hours. It’s super thin too, coming in just under 2cm slim and yet those talented chaps at Gigabyte still managed to fit very comfortable auto-adjusting backlit keyboardand individual macro keys!

Aside from the very latest in hardware inside you’ll also find it has all the connections we look for like USB Type-C and HDMI 2.0 for connecting to a 4K 60FPS screen should you decide that you want to play a little League of Legends on the TV when you get home 😛

UPDATE: We were blown away when we first tested the GTX 1060 in laptops and with this new, more portable option things are certainly looking even better now for the gamer on go 🙂 Even with the new slimmer frame this GTX 1060 Kaby Lake combo still pushes out the frames like a big gaming PC and with that beautiful 2560×1440 screen games are a joy to play! Even in the most intense firefights, the Gigabyte Aero manages to keep thing nice and smooth as we try to capture the flag in Overwatch below \o/

GOOD GRAPHICS CARD BONUS – Choose your adventure with GTX 1050, GTX 1050ti & GTX 1060!

GGPC Choose your adventure

UPDATE: Promotion has now ended, if you purchased your PC or Graphics Card before the 30th of January 2017 you can still redeem.

For a limited time grab yourself a new GTX 1050ti or GTX 1060 Graphics card, Gaming PC or Gaming Laptop featuring these and you can register to redeem a game code for either Raw Data, Redout or Maize \o/

The hardest part will be deciding which free game to choose! Let’s take a look at what’s on offer 🙂

First up – Maize

A first-person adventure game about what happens when two scientists misinterpret a memo from the U.S. Government and create sentient corn. And that last sentence is pretty much the least ridiculous thing about the game 😛

Next on the list – Raw Data

A made-for-VR high-octane combat experience combining elements of shooters with tower defense. Active VR gameplay involves your whole body as you put your wits, boldness and endurance to the test. Intuitive controls completely immerse you within the game world, from engaging with objects to pulling weapons off your body to strategically choosing your loadout. And all the while, you’ll be slashing, shooting, deflecting, ducking and dodging as you fend off waves of androids set to “kill.”

And the final choice – Redout

Redout is a tribute to the old racing monsters such as F-Zero, WipeOut, Rollcage, and POD. It is designed to be an uncompromising, fast, tough and satisfying driving experience, soaked in that vertigo that stands at the core of the arcade racing genre. The floating system and driving models are based on physics: each turn, slope, hard braking, acceleration, each turn and twist of the track will apply a unique force to the ship. A sharp low-polygon style blends meshes and terrains with the latest state-of-the-art shading and lighting effects provided by the Unreal Engine 4, creating beautiful and instantly recognisable aesthetics. Breezy coastlines, eerie frozen landscapes, vast desert plains: the melancholic, dystopian atmosphere of a semi abandoned Earth is the background for the most high-speed, tense and beautiful futuristic racing clashes.

Tough choices for sure but getting your game bonus is easy 🙂 Once you’ve got your awesome new hardware visit the Gigabyte Redemption Site or EVGA Redemption Site to register for your game code, you’ll then receive a special code by email and once you’ve got that visit the Nvidia Game Code website and enter it in 🙂

GAME ON!

Good Gaming Motherboard – Z270 Series Unleashed!

UPDATE: A full range of Z270 series motherboards is available in NZ now!

GGPC Aorus Z270X Gaming 5 MotherboardThe arrival of the new Kaby Lake CPU brought with it some new Z270 motherboards for some beautiful high end Gaming PC builds and although these latest generation motherboards only have a couple of new techy features depending on the model (good for supporting more high speed storage devices) they’ve all had a solid update to the lighting kits and some even have some pretty sweet liquid cooling loadouts ready to roll 🙂

Starting things off with a favourite from the bunch we take a closer look at the new lineup from Gigabyte, specifically the Aorus Z270X Gaming 5 \o/

With this new lineup Aorus motherboards we get a major cooling controller upgrade. The Aorus Gaming 5 (and all other Aorus mobo as well :P) includes what Gigabyte is calling “hybrid fan headers” which allow us to adjust the voltage to each connected device so we can tweak our builds cooling, pumps and most importantly – make things oh so quiet. It’s not just one or two of the headers that are special like this either, all (5) on our Gaming 5 mobo work in this way 🙂 The mobo also packs a bunch of thermal sensors so if you want your machine to rev up additional cooling automatically it’s ready to roll and to top things off if you’re wanting to add additional RGB lighting strips you’ll find a handy RGB 12v header just under the bottom PCIe slot and connecting to this will allow you to sync the lighting throughout the build via Fusion \o/

One of the main reasons we like the Aorus lineup so much is because of the pure black and white colour scheme Gigabyte have gone with, and this makes using the new multi-zone RGB LED lighting system that Aorus comes equipped with all the more awesome – you can light up around the ram slots, graphics card slots and there has also been a really cool update to the trace lighting path on the side of the motherboard thanks the addition of a patterned transparent plate that really captures the LED and the glow is incredible, these plates are easily interchangeable as well so messing around with patterns for custom builds is going to be blast! They’ve got some slick new software to make the most of this which also has the fancy name “RGB Fusion” and it will allow you to quickly customise the various zones to get the perfect look.

GGPC Gaming PC Gigabyte Fusion App

Combine all this with some really nice features like re-enforced PCIe slots, X-Fi audio (great if you want to hear those footsteps), gold plated connections and dual M.2 slots for some very rapid storage and you’ve got one killer motherboard that looks good and can hold together a top tier system – fun times ahead!

But that’s not all!

Asus have revealed their new lineup also and among these is what looks to be an updated version for the Z170-AR we use in our own Paladin GTX 1070 Gaming PC which Asus are calling the Z270-A Prime (looks like this one is the Z270-AR in NZ)

GGPC Z270A Prime MotherboardMuch like the Gigabyte motherboard above this new version has had the previous blue accent removed and is now sports a clean black and white colour scheme we like. It sports those nifty fan headers as well and although it’s shy on the lighting zones (a small bit of RGB path lighting) Asus have continued to make the new lineup a little more mod friendly by offering a range of unique customisation options for those with access to a 3D Printer \o/ Dedicated mounting points on the motherboard make fitting 3D printed parts possible by using the same screws as M.2 drives (hard to find but four 2mm x 3mm screws included with the kingston ssd bracket if you get stuck) so we’ll be able fit nameplates, ninja cable covers and more as we experiment with things – With Asus backing 3D Printer modding in this way along with Cooler Master and ThermalTake we’re sure to see more and more cool models emerge for these and not just for those lucky few with a fancy new motherboard – 3D models for 120mm fan covers, 2-way SLi bridges and even cable combs!

Fun times ahead!

Good Gaming Laptop – Gigabyte GTX 1050 Sabre 15!

When the GTX 10 series laptops first appeared late last year we were blown away in our tests with the new GTX 1060 and GTX 1070 variants, both in terms of performance but also with how close these portable solutions were to their desktop brethren. With the GTX 1060 Gaming Laptop power efficiency had become so good that when running on battery it was almost as powerful as when it was connected to mains power – as you’ll see below in our long test with Battlefield one it was very close but still required a little settings tweak when switching between the two.

In a perfect world a gaming laptop will allow you to switch between powered and battery modes with no tweaking of settings required allowing us to truly game on the go.

And that’s why we’ve been excitedly awaiting the new GTX 1050 gaming laptop release, and today a pretty cool looking new one just got announced!

The new Sabre 15 Gaming Laptop in coming our way \o/ Featuring the new Kaby Lake Intel Core i7 processor and equipped with either the newly announced GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB or the GTX 1050 2GB we’ll be putting both versions though some GGPC gaming tests to see exactly what these machines can do! We’ve recently updated our GTX 1050 Desktop playlist with new tests with a range of titles to compare with and it’s going to be blast finding out what these new gaming laptops can do.

UPDATE: We’ve jumped into some games with GTX 1050 Sabre 15 Laptop and things are looking GOOD!

Future tests aside (for now) the new Sabre series is looking really good, they’ve taken away the orange trim in favour of a clean all black look and the keyboard has been improved and is now fitted with 2.2mm travel scissor type keys, for that extra feel and precision 🙂 There will be options for a either a red LED or a glorious RGB backlit keyboard with 16.8 million colours to choose from.

We’ll continue testing so keep your eyes on the GGPC Computers Blog for the latest!

Good Gaming PC – The Gigabyte BRIX GTX 1070 Beast!

A new treat from Gigabyte has just landed in NZ and this one’s pretty GOOD!

Packing such a killer Gaming PC config into a really small package is no easy feat, the GTX 1070 and i7-6700K can produce quite a bit of heat when gaming as the push all those glorious frames to your monitor or TV for you to enjoy and that’s what makes this new machine oh so sweet, Gigabyte have packed in the specs while keeping the build wonderfully small 🙂

GGPC Gigabyte BRIX Xbox One Gaming PCThis isn’t a build we can do for ourselves here at GGPC either because those technical chaps at Gigabyte have made a very fancy custom chassis especially for it, not only is it small but the airflow for cooling is top notch! We first spotted this new chassis design at Computex (it was hard to miss) but now the little beast has released with Nvidia 10 series power inside putting it performance wise right up beside our very own GGPC Custom Gaming PC and much like ours it’s also packing good things like AC Wireless and Bluetooth making it perfect to setup in the lounge if the consoles just aren’t cutting it for you 😛 To really put the size of this one into perspective we lined things up with an XBox One S, the new Gigabyte BRIX and a mid sized Cooler Master MasterBox 5 🙂

Only a small number of Gigabyte GZ1 Gaming PC have landed in New Zealand, get in quick and grab yours today!
