The new Nvidia RTX 3060 graphics cards is set to be released on February 26th at 6am here in New Zealand, with awesome new options in a wide range of aftermarket cooling designs from EVGA, Asus, Gigabyte available on day one with more to come!
Being a 30 series RTX GPU, this new 3060 is super powerful, as we’ve come to expect from this latest generation of graphics cards, and the first options also have a rather massive allocation of memory at 12GB running with a 192-bit memory bus – that’s more and less than the just-released RTX3060Ti, which has 8GB at 256-bit, we’re unsure if/when other memory options are coming.
That aside the RTX 3060 is a very exciting graphic card with slightly lower spec’s than the Ti version across the board, and thanks to those relaxed power requirements and great performance, it’s sure to be extremely popular. The RTX 3060 is geared to support the latest Nvidia feature sets, including Broadcast for streamers and NVIDIA Reflex for high FPS gamers, which is even more exciting now with some of the compatible mice, such as the Logitech PRO X Superlight, being released already.
Looking at the base specs we see the RTX 3060 packs in 3,584 cores, with its base clock from Nvidia showing 1.32GHz – it’s going to be very interesting to see how far EVGA, Asus and Gigabyte can push this default spec up! If the mighty Gigabyte AORUS RTX 3060 Elite shown above is any indication of what we can expect – it’s going to be quite the race.
On the other end of the spectrum, we see the EVGA RTX 3060 cooler design for their black series is looking super cool too, suitably dark and low key in comparison!
Oddly, these are also looking to be the first new RTX 30 GPU that Nvidia hasn’t shown a Founders Edition for, so it’s going to be interesting to see if those might come a bit later with other memory configuration, but that’s just speculation at this point.
You can check out all the latest RTX3060 options as soon as they become available (6am, early Friday morning here in NZ) in the Nvidia Store at PB Tech.

Woohooo! New Nvidia GeForce graphics cards have been revealed and it’s all looking very good indeed for gamer’s in New Zealand with the most powerful RTX 3080 expected arrive first, followed by the RTX 3090 and lastly RTX 3070 graphics card models.
Looking closer at the flagship RTX 3090 we see a massive PCB and cooler, with 24GB GDDR6X memory under the hood for the fastest possible performance. Oddly, the RTX 3080 and RTX 3090 reference cooler design looks to outtake air in new directions – not to worry though, lots of great aftermarket versions are coming our way 🙂
Quickly recapping the key points from the Nvidia presentation, the new RTX 30 series graphics cards were unveiled during a virtual launch event by NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang. During the event which it was also announced that Fortnite, the pop culture gaming phenomenon, is turning on RTX real-time ray tracing, adding four ray-traced features for a more immersive gaming experience, including reflections, shadows, global illumination and ambient occlusion. Fortnite is the latest blockbuster game to turn RTX On, joining Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and a large group of AAA titles, such as Cyberpunk 2077, Dying Light 2 and Watch Dogs: Legion – which was also highlighted in a game bonus offer. (we’ve asked the Nvidia team to see if we’re eligible in NZ.)
Huang additionally revealed powerful new tools for gamers, including NVIDIA Reflex, which makes competitive gamers quicker; Omniverse Machinima, for video game storytelling using real-time computer graphics engines; and NVIDIA Broadcast, which harnesses AI to turn any room into a home broadcast studio.
“Today’s launch of NVIDIA Ampere GPUs is a giant step into the future,” said Huang. “The work of thousands of engineering years, the GeForce RTX 30 Series delivers our greatest generational leap ever. NVIDIA RTX fuses programmable shading, ray tracing and AI for developers to create entirely new worlds. Twenty years from now, we’ll look back and realise that the future of gaming started here.”
The new RTX 30 Series GPUs are packed full of cutting-edge features, with over two decades of graphics R&D, technology including:
– World’s fastest graphics memory: NVIDIA has worked with Micron to create the world’s fastest discrete graphics memory for the RTX 30 Series, GDDR6X. It provides data speeds of close to 1TB/s system memory bandwidth for graphics card applications, maximising game and app performance.
– Next-gen process technology: New 8N NVIDIA custom process from Samsung, which allows for higher transistor density and more efficiency.
– New streaming multiprocessors: The building block for the world’s fastest, most efficient GPU, delivering 2x the FP32 throughput of the previous generation, and 30 Shader-TFLOPS of processing power.
– Second-gen RT Cores: New dedicated RT Cores deliver 2x the throughput of the previous generation, plus concurrent ray tracing and shading and compute, with 58 RT-TFLOPS of processing power.
– Third-gen Tensor Cores: New dedicated Tensor Cores, with up to 2x the throughput of the previous generation, making it faster and more efficient to run AI-powered technologies, like NVIDIA DLSS, and 238 Tensor-TFLOPS of processing power.
– DLSS: AI-Powered Gaming Acceleration NVIDIA DLSS, one of the biggest graphics breakthroughs of the past decade, uses the deep learning neural network powered by RTX Tensor Cores. When enabled, DLSS improves performance in titles such as Control, Minecraft with RTX for Windows 10 and Death Stranding, while generating images that are comparable to native resolution. DLSS will be heading to Boundary, Bright Memory Infinite, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Cyberpunk 2077, Fortnite, Ready or Not, Scavengers and Watch Dogs: Legion. For those with more powerful PC configurations, a new Ultra Performance mode enables DLSS to run up to 8K
– NVIDIA RTX IO: Enables rapid GPU-based loading and game asset decompression, accelerating input/output performance by up to 100x compared with hard drives and traditional storage APIs. In conjunction with Microsoft’s new DirectStorage for Windows API,(1) RTX IO offloads dozens of CPU cores’ worth of work to the RTX GPU, improving frame rates and enabling near- instantaneous game loading.
You can watch the full Nvidia event recap on YouTube above, we’ll continue to get all the details together and get ready for some massive game FPS testing – will there be an performance advantage to PCIe 4.0? Will the 313mm length have us cutting cases so it can fit? We’re excited to find out.

Rainbow 6 Seige: Master the art of destruction and gadgetry in Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege. Face intense close-quarters combat, high lethality, tactical decision making, team play and explosive action within every moment. Engage in a brand-new style of assault using an unrivalled level of destruction and gadgetry!
On defence: Coordinate with your team to transform your environments into strongholds. Trap, fortify and create defensive systems to prevent being breached by the enemy.

The Gold Edition pack allows the player to choose from dozens of highly trained, Special Forces operators from around the world. Deploy the latest technology to track enemy movement. Shatter walls to open new lines of fire. Breach ceilings and floors to create new access points. Employ every weapon and gadget from your deadly arsenal to locate, manipulate and destroy your enemies and the environment around them.
Running high frames and refresh rates on competitive games allow you to see things sooner and hit what you are aiming at. This Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege high FPS and Hz video shows the benefits of using a powerful graphics card like the GeForce RTX 2080Ti with a 240 Hz monitor.
The base game feels like a modern Counterstrike at first, so you can jump in and get into the lethal shooter gameplay side right away, but much like CS as you learn the various levels the game starts to evolve into a very deep, rather slow tactical shooter, packed full of glorious PVP misdirection and bait movements.
More than just point and shoot, there is a real emphasis on using environmental sounds to locate the enemies in this one too, adding to the tension and everyone slowly creeps about the place, peeping through holes in walls and popping off rounds to cover the sounds created elsewhere.
You can play the game in a single-player mode they call ‘situations’ and this is great for trying out new things without having to wait for the match to end to try things again. Multiplayer is also doable in solo queue but the game really comes into its own when you team up with mates and get on the microphones.
You don’t actually need to have the highest-end graphics card to enjoy this game too, 60+ FPS is achievable on entry-level GTX configs (remember this game bonus offer is ONLY for RTX graphics cards though), simply don a riot shield, work with your team, and have fun emptying the clip 🙂
