GGPC GIGABYTE GTX 1070 LAPTOP NEVER FIGHT ALONE

A new saga begins for one of the most acclaimed video game franchises in history, GEARS OF WAR 4! After narrowly escaping an attack on their village, JD Fenix and his friends, Kait and Del, must rescue the ones they love and discover the source of a monstrous new enemy. Set 25 years after the Imulsion Countermeasure weapon destroyed all Imulsion and took with it the use of fossil fuels, forcing humanity to adapt new ways for survival – but hey, at least it took out the Locust and the Lambent as well right 😛  Following the aftermath of the Lambent Epidemic, the reformed Coalition of Ordered Governments estimated that only hundreds of thousands of humans are left on Sera. To prevent the population from declining, walled-off cities were built to protect the citizens from the dangers outside but tensions rise with a new faction known as the “Outsiders” who choose to live outside of the COG jurisdiction…

Getting you game code is easy, once you’ve got your awesome new hardware visit the registration page for Gigabyte, EVGA or Asus (depending on your chosen flavour 😛) and click the REDEEM button at the bottom of the pages, follow the steps along to register your new graphics card – once completed you’ll receive an Nvidia code via email and when you’ve got that simply visit the Nvidia redemption page and enter it in!

The promotion runs from today until October 30th, the game is a part of Xbox Play Anywhere so you’ll get a copy of the PC version and Xbox One also which is nice and also a bit clever as Gears of War 4 supports Cross Play across Xbox One and Windows 10 in all of the game’s modes – fun times ahead indeed!

Those fine folks @ Nvidia have uploaded some tasty 4K gameplay to tide us over until we get to try this one out for ourselves 😛

Good Graphics Card – GTX 1060 Gaming FPS Tests on Laptop & Desktop

UPDATE: GTX 1060 Laptop Playlist

UPDATE: GTX 1060 Desktop Playlist

GAME ON! What better way to test out the new range of GTX 1060 Graphics Cards than by quickly playing a whole range of games with the new GTX 1060 Laptop and Gaming PC \o/

We’ve had some epic battles in Titanfall 2 with the 3GB Gigabyte GTX 1060 sticking pretty darn close to 60FPS even when jumping on the back of an enemy titan to pop a grenade 🙂 This game plays best on the 6GB version letting you push those textures all the up.

With Battlefield 1 you can go ultra all the way for most maps, in the big city map when all the smokey rubble, flame throwers and gas grenades start going it can get a little dicey but you can still keep above 60 by tweaking post processing and mesh to high 🙂

Moving away from first person shooters now we jump into a bit of Black Desert Online and with this one the 6GB Asus Strix GTX 1060 really shines, BDO is framelocked to 60 but achieving this isn’t easy – nicely done nVidia!

The GTX 1060 isn’t invincible though, we threw the Witcher 3 at it with some very high settings and while it’s still playable, it pushes the 1060 to its limits.

Tweaking the settings a little makes for smooth gaming though, as you can see with the GTX 1060 Laptop below 🙂

Lots more games to play and more tests coming, keep your eyes on the GGPC YouTube Channel for the latest!

Good Graphics – No Man’s Sky Gameplay FPS Tests Begin!

PEW PEW! No Man’s Sky has finally released on PC and we’ve begun our Graphics Card FPS tests to see what the performance is like for both Nvidia and AMD in this epic new space odyssey 🙂

Starting out with the just released AMD RX 460 Graphics card things are looking pretty good indeed, transition from space to the planets surface is acceptable with frame rates dipping into the high 20’s, once on the surface our FPS increases to a rather impressive 45!

Next up for the green team we jet through the asteroids and down to the planet below with the excellent Nvidia GTX 960 graphics card, this mid range card has been a favourite for a while now and with it the gameplay is smooth managing to hold around 49 frames per second during our re-entry and landing test.  Great work from Nvidia!

For the AMD RX 470 graphics card test we extended the journey (2 minute test) to include blasting off from the planets surface and then headed back down again.  FPS held up very well with majority of the flight being in the 70’s and only a short stutter into 30’s during our landing sequence, so far for us these dips typically occur around landing or when entering a planets atmosphere for the first time.

When it came to the Nvidia GTX 1080 tests we opted to jump right into 4K gameplay and used ShadowPlay to capture the video below, oddly although the game settings say “Full Screen” this is not the case and it’s actually running in a window – we got around this for our game capture by setting ShadowPlay to record the desktop and it worked great!  Some stutters in the usual places for sure but this is 3840×2160 at almost max settings with game cap running and it still manages to hit around 60FPS!

One thing is for sure, No Man’s Sky is going to be one epic adventure with a whole galaxy to explore, filled with unique planets and lifeforms, and constant danger and action!

GAME ON!

Good Gaming Monitor – Asus 1440p for Overwatch eSports

The power of our Graphics Cards have increase substantially recently with the release of the AMD RX 480 and the GTX 1070 from Nvidia, things are so good in fact that if you are lucky enough to be running with one in your system you’re pretty much good to leave the 1080P world behind and jump right into 2560 x 1440 resolution for your games, of course that means you’re probably going to have to find yourself a new monitor that can handle this higher quality.

Enter the Asus VX24AH 🙂 This awesome Asus monitor is quite unlike any we’ve had the pleasure of using before. The super sleek 2560 x 1440 panel produces an absolutely stunning image that has to be seen in person to appreciate fully, while most monitors above 1920×1080 resolution use the 27? size because this one is only 23.8? the pixel density is much higher and when you’re gaming on it graphics look oh so crisp – IMO even better than our 28? 4K monitors! The colours are vibrant and the monitor is apparently 100% sRGB accurate, although we haven’t used it for editing yet it’s a pretty safe bet that it would be a great choice for this as well as gaming 🙂

GGPC eSports NZ

We recently equipped our GGPC eSports teams with the VX24AH for Overwatch and the game has never looked so good! The monitor also has nice and wide viewing angle so it made things easy for spectators watching the gaming with us as well, it’s also really really slim and this was a great asset for us having limited desk space for each players setup.

GGPC VX42ah OverclockAlthough the monitor is certainly ultra slim it does still have twin speakers for those moments when you don’t want to wear your headset, there is a headphone jack on the monitor along with the twin HDMI ports which also support MHL so if you’re lucky enough to have a MHL compatible smartphone you can view it on the VX24AH while simultaneously charging the device, and that’s certainly handy to have around 🙂

The monitor is 60Hz and since we had a little downtime between matches we checked out just how far we could overclock this and managed to increase to 69Hz stable for a 15% performance gain – nicely done Asus!

Oddly there isn’t a DisplayPort input on the monitor so if you’re thinking of going triple screen be sure to check your graphics card outputs and be prepared to get some HDMI-DisplayPort cables as the monitor only includes HDMI-HDMI cables in the box.

Now that we’ve had a really good go with this Asus monitor we are happy to recommend it to gamers who are looking for a really nice 1440p screen – This Asus Monitor is most definitely GOOD!

GGPC recommends VX24AH

UPDATE: Still haven’t found a better looking 1440p Gaming Monitor in NZ yet!

Good Graphics Card – Asus GTX 1060 available now!

GTX 1060
What a treat! This time around we got to skip the founders edition and move straight into testing out the latest Asus ROG STRIX GTX 1060 graphics card!

This beastly new graphics card looks utterly amazing, even when it’s off.  Turn it on and not only does Republic of Gamers start glowing with a vibrant LED but half the card lights up to go along with it – you can check these out for yourself on our GGPC Instagram 🙂  It’s a Aura RGB Lighting system so you’ll be able to tweak things so the card will match your setup perfectly.

It’s a massive card, much larger than we expected but comes packed with all those fancy ASUS technologies like their DirectCU III with a triple wing-blade 0dB fan designed to deliver maximum airflow and quieter performance. It also features GPU-controlled fan headers you can connect to system fans for targeted supplemental cooling which we’re looking forward to playing around with 🙂 We were surprised to that even this massive aftermarket version didn’t have an SLi bridge though!

GGPC GTX1060 build
Performance wise it doesn’t disappoint, we’ve begun testing out our favourites and as you’ll see in our quick Overwatch FPS below the in game results are pretty excellent!  This new graphics card also meets the requirements for a VR ready PC which is sure to put at the top of many peoples upgrade lists, and if you’re thinking of upgrading from the Nvidia 700 series this new graphics card is certainly a fine choice.

This time around it’s a little different from the other recent 10 series launches with the aftermarket cooler versions being available and the Nvidia Founders edition only being sold directly by Nvidia, sadly that means it’s pretty unlikely we’ll see the reference version down here in NZ 🙁

There are a few different flavours available for the GTX 1060 now in New Zealand and they are all quite unique, the new GTX 1060 G1 Gaming edition features the new dual fan cooling system with alternate spinning fans and 2 composite copper heat pipes with direct touch to the GPU, much like the Asus GTX 1060 above the fans shut off during low usage for silent operation. Gigabyte have additional GTX 1060 models coming including a both a mid sized and small form factor version!

G1 GTX 1060 top

EVGA have created what’s looking to be the best GTX 1060 options with a very cool, very small graphics card on offer as well.   Seriously how cool are these!  These cards also feature EVGA ACX cooling technology which once again allows for silent operation and also feature optimized swept fan blades, double ball bearings and an extreme low power motor, delivering more airflow with less power which EVGA say allows additional power for the GPU.

EVGA 1060 small and big

Pretty cool right!  We’ve uploaded our first GTX 1060 custom build to PC Part Picker for you all to check out, and be sure to swing by the GGPC YouTube and GGPC Facebook for as we have a lot more gameplay coming from these excellent new graphics cards 🙂

Good Graphics Card – GTX 1060 incoming

GTX 1060 NZ

UPDATE: The GTX 1060 is available in New Zealand now!

Nvidia has unveiled the new GTX 1060 and it’s the most exciting Pascal-based graphics card lineup yet – Nvidia claims the GTX 1060 is faster than a GTX 980!

This awesome new graphics card is set to be released worldwide on July 19 and while the full technical specifics for the GTX 1060 aren’t available just yet, Nvidia claims is easily overclocked to 2GHz and beyond but best of all – the power supplied is via a single 6-pin connector, this will enable us to do some crazy small gaming PC builds featuring this new card and the overall price should be very good indeed! Like the GTX 1080 and GTX 1070, the GTX 1060 will be available from manufacturers like Gigabyte, Asus and EVGA as well as a founders edition from Nvidia.

The early launch of the GTX 1060 makes things pretty interesting with AMD set to release the RX 470 shortly afterwards, in any case we can’t wait to show you our YouTube Gameplay FPS tests for both!

Good Graphics – GTX 1080 and 1070 Available NOW

UPDATE: The GTX 1070 and GTX 1080 available in New Zealand now!

UPDATE: Gameplay FPS Test playlists are live now for the GTX 1050, GTX 1060, GTX 1070, GTX 1080 and also GTX 1060 Laptop, GTX 1070 Laptop

Jumping straight into gaming the new GTX 1070 doesn’t disappoint, specs for this one are quite similar to the recently released GTX 1080 with a large memory allocation of 8GB GDDR5 (no X, that’s only with the 1080) and a boost clock speed of 1683MHz with slightly less cuda cores. Without overclocking this new GTX 1070 graphics card from Nvidia is capable of some extremely high end settings while gaming and even if you’re gearing up to go with a new GTX 1070 in a Gaming Laptop, performance is excellent!

With the desktop version of the GTX 1070 we started testing with a very affordable intel i5 combo and received a top score exceeding what is currently deemed necessary for a VR Ready Gaming PC 🙂  This is going to be a very popular graphics card indeed even if the video below is extremely boring to watch!

After our initial tests with the desktop GTX 1070 we updated our design from the i5-6400 we used originally to a slightly more powerful i5-6500 for our new GGPC Warlock GTX 1070 Gaming PC, this gave us a little more power balance (both CPU are great but the 6500 is certainly faster) and performance is now better in games like Assassins Creed. Check out our PC build on GGPC PC Part Picker if you’re looking to build a 1070 system yourself and are hunting for a starting point to tweak from 🙂

GGPC GIGABYTE GTX 1070 LAPTOP NEVER FIGHT ALONE

If you’re wanting to check out the GTX 1070 Gaming Laptop Virtual Reality Performance we’ve got the tests on GGPC YouTube Channel running both on battery and plugged into mains power to check out – spoilers – it passed both 😛

Below is DOOM from our GTX 1070 Gaming Laptop In-Game Framerate Playlist and if you’ve got some time you can check out a range of games with system stats shown top left and settings we used (always chasing 60FPS!) shown at the end of each gameplay 🙂

Moving onto the Desktop GTX 1080 we decided to do all tests at 3840×2160 resolution and chase 60FPS as always, we did this for a few reasons but mainly because if you’re after a GTX 1080 Gaming PC you’re probably wanting to play in 4K and also because too many attempts at 2560×1440 had us just selecting all ultra settings 😛

The Battlefield 1 BETA sure looks beautiful in 4K, the desert map was great fun and we can’t wait to do more tests when the full game releases, check out the new GTX 1080 Gameplay FPS Test Playlist for more performance tests in a range of games and let us know anything you’d like to see tested 🙂

So yes, it seems we’re in for some crazy times ahead!  Be sure to keep an eye on our YouTube Graphics Card FPS Channel to see more Graphics Cards in action!
