This may change as more brands join in but right now it’s only MSI (Pre-built Gaming PC) and ASUS / GIGABYTE (Custom Gaming PC builds).

Please note: We expect more brand redemption websites will go live soon, and we’ll add more brands as they get confirmed.

When it comes to what qualifies as a custom Gaming PC build, the Asus T&C say the invoice(s) must include eligible RTX 3070/80/90(Ti) GPU plus at least 3/4 additional parts listed from compatible Motherboard, CPU, RAM and Storage, so yep, definitely read the specific brand redemption page conditions before you commit. You can use the custom PC builder tool at https://www.pbtech.co.nz/system-builder/gaming-pc/custom-gaming-pc and if you select an eligible GPU, a banner will automatically appear.

Crypto mining with Nvidia Graphics Cards: Understanding LHR, V2 and 2.0 GPU Manufacturer codes

UPDATE: All GGPC pre-built and Custom Gaming PC systems are using new model NVIDIA Graphics Cards which are LHR, KL, V2 or 2.0.

Recently, Nvidia took steps towards making their Gaming Graphics Cards less desirable to crypto miners. They did this by making restricting performance for a specific mining task, while gaming performance still remains full strength.

The important detail to be aware of is that NVIDIA has now applied a reduced hash rate performance to newly manufactured GeForce RTX 3080(Ti), RTX 3070(Ti) and RTX 3060(Ti) GPU.

This means all currently available NVIDIA 30 series GPU, except for the RTX 3090, are now less suitable for mining builds.

Clear communication to gamers that also want to mine is now the goal – using MFC codes. This was needed because these GPUs originally launched with a full hash rate, there is a lot of old information around the web that can make it somewhat confusing for those wanting to try mining out for the first time.

To help with this, NVIDIA GeForce partners, Asus and Gigabyte AORUS have applied labelling for new model cards with a “Lite Hash Rate,” or “LHR” or “KL” or “V2” or “2.0” identifier to signal that the GPU is the newer version.

For Asus, you can see the V2 is now in the MFC codes for the graphics cards.

Sometimes, the new MFC code characters make them too large for websites to display, in the case of PB Tech New Zealand we can see they have a limited number of characters they can display so they add it to the title.

For Gigabyte AORUS, the new MFC codes look like these with 2.0.

GV-N3070EAGLE OC-8GD 2.0

GV-N3080GAMING OC-10GD 2.0

EVGA are using KL to signal the updated versions. But GPU like the RTX 3080 Ti are all lite hash rate, so those still use the original KR

12G-P5-3967-KR (this has a KR but because it’s a newer Ti, it’s a lite hash rate)

10G-P5-3885-KL (The new version of the RTX 3080 with KL identifier)

MSI are yet to apply a new MFC code identifier in some cases, but newer graphics cards show the LHR identifier.

So there we have it! We hope this helps to make the search for graphics cards a little easier, with time all gaming graphics will be the newer versions too, so it’s only going to get better for us gamers 🙂

Please note: for those still wanting to mine, the current time-to-break-even stat for the RTX 3090 is around 320 days.
